Houston Interactive Animal Adventure Is All Hands-On
When they say visit the animals, they mean visit the animals. Everything is interactive here. You can pet, feed, and take pictures with birds, lizards, sea creatures including sharks and stingrays (yes, stingrays), reptiles including alligators, lemurs, and sloths. Yep, sloths.
That’s not all. You can traverse a rope course, tackle an obstacle course, whiz over the park on a zipline, and host parties with bouncy houses and other party paraphernalia. There are things to do both indoors and outdoors.
Oh, and there are mermaids. These aren’t the siren kind. They like to tell stories, or sea yarns, you might say.
An Austin business filed a plan to develop the aquarium earlier this year (2019) and is scheduled to open in 2020 pending approval.
This Interactive Animal Adventure is currently building on 4.7 acres near Crosswinds and Northbelt.
The project was originally called the Houston Interactive Aquarium and Zoo, but it sounded too close to the Houston Zoo which as you can imagine would create confusion.
Those buying pre-opening passes thought they could be used there.
Houston Zoo sued and won, saying no one else can use Houston and Zoo together, and now the name is changed to The Houston Interactive Aquarium and Animal Adventure.
