PA Sloth Encounter Hosted By Chambersburg PA Mall
If you are wondering… Where can I hold a sloth in PA? You will be happy to know that a sloth encounter PA is possible near you. The Chambersburg Mall in Pennsylvania is going wild on Saturday, Jan. 25, and Sunday, Jan. 26.
From 10 am to 5 pm on both days you can see all kinds of wild creatures where you usually do your shopping. Okay, the animals aren’t shopping but they are going to be at the mall.
There are two ways to enjoy this PA sloth experience. One way is to get to the space that is currently being held at the Burlington Coat Factory because at fifteen-minute intervals there will be interactive programs, one featuring reptiles and another features mammals.
The programs are about 30 minutes each and are designed to teach people some basics about the category of animal featured.
The reptiles and invertebrates presentation will be shown at 10:15 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:45 p.m., and 4:15 p.m.
The mammal’s presentation will be shown at 11:00 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
Wild Animals Encounters
When I say animals at the mall, I’m not talking purse pooches. More like alligators and a giant python. You can also see a giant lizard, (no, not a dinosaur), a tarantula, an armadillo, an opossum, a porcupine, and a sloth.
So this is one way you might have a PA sloth encounter, you might encounter them when you turn a corner or walk to your favorite restaurant. I heard there will be some other animals as well, so get ready to be surprised.
Now about that other way to see the animals. They’ll be strolling with keepers all over the mall. That’s right, you’re walking to your favorite store or to the food court, and here comes an opossum walking with a keeper right towards you.
You can pet these animals and learn about them directly from the handler who can answer any questions you may have. The sloth encounter in Pennsylvania Mall comes to you.
The mall has had this event before and this year is a new exhibit called Diversity of Living Things. There’s also an Animal Ambassador exhibit. Eric, the Reptile Guy will also put in an appearance.

Where are the Animals From?
The animals and the presenters are provided by Little Ray’s Nature Center and the Foundation for Animal Rescue and Education.
The two groups are affiliated with one another.
Little Ray’s Nature Center is one of the biggest animal and ecological educational centers in Canada. They specialize in Eco-education that is hands-on and travels to different locations, bringing the education to people rather than having them come to the center.
They also work with zoos to help them develop more effective means of presenting their programs and interactive encounters.
The center also acts as an animal rescue organization and is privately funded.
The owners, Paul Raymond and Sherri Goulet started the center in November of 2000. It came out of Paul’s fascination with reptiles and subsequent collection of them in childhood.
After informally showing all his pets and teaching about their lives and habitats at his elementary school, he progressed to sharing at other events and venues until he decided to do this as his primary occupation.
The Foundation for Animal Rescue and Education (FARE) is closely associated with Little Ray Nature Center. One of the things that they do is provide educational programs to teach the public about everything that can affect animals and their environment and how to decrease any problem that has an adverse effect.
Animal welfare and how to care for a pet responsibly are main topics in the educational program.
The foundation also acts as a fundraiser for other organizations that have similar goals.
Animal rescue activities and environmental enterprises such as tree planting are also promoted.
Both of these organizations are in Canada and have been conducting presentations and educational programs throughout Canada for a few years and more recently into the United States.
