Sick Little Girls Sloth Dream Come True
Young 15 yeard old Mackenzie has been fighting what she thought was a common cold or perhaps allergies since she was 11 years old.
Her biggest wish was to ever see a sloth in person, and Make-A-Wish® Foundation (Massachusetts and Rhode Island Chapter) made her Sloth Dream a reality.
Sloths have been a good part of helping her on the roughest times of her long treatment. Ms. Mackenzie and her family took a trip to
Having sloths in her life has helped her get through the roughest days of treatment. So she wanted to see a sloth up close and personal.
Ms. Mackenzie and her family took the trip from Coventry, Rhode Island so that she can experience her dream of being close to a sloth.
What is Cystic fibrosis (CF)?
According to Children Hospital in Oakland “Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited disease that causes the body to produce abnormally thick and sticky mucus. The mucus builds up in the lungs, resulting in frequent serious lung infections. The mucus also may cause scarring and cyst formation in the pancreas—an organ that helps break down and absorb food—which can result in serious digestive problems and malnutrition.”
Sufferers of this disease inherit two bad genes, one for each of their parents. Yearly 30,000 children and adults are afflicted in the United States.
What is Make-A-Wish® Foundation?
Make-A-Wish® is a Not-For-Profit organization that helps children who have been diagnosed with critical or terminal illness by making one of their wishes become a reality. In the case of Ms. Mackenzie, she had a sloth dream. 1000’s of volunteers, supporters, and donors help Make-A-Wish® goals become a reality.
According to their website in the United States alone, a wish has been granted every 34 minutes on average due to their efforts.
