The sanctuary has its location at Nayara Springs and Nayara Resort, Spa and Garden where visitors and travelers can easily see them hanging on a tree. An approximate number of 300 new Cecropia trees are planted just to house the sloth and make them feel at home.

Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica

Sloth Sanctuary of Costa RicaThis Sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica was founded in 1992 and one of the first rescue center in the world. This rescue center became famous through Animal Planet’s Meet the sloth series.

The center shows care to injured, abandoned and orphaned sloths. Educational tours are offered where the public is educated on how man affects the future of the species.

Researchers in this sloth sanctuary have indicated that handling sloth by inexperienced and unfamiliar handlers can result in their premature death.

This is why visitors are only allowed to view and stay close to them without holding or touching them.

Santa Rosa National Park

Santa Rosa National Park Sloth SanctuaryThe Santa Rosa National Park in the Guanacaste Province in Costa Rica is one of Costa Rica’s oldest national park that houses within its tropical trees different species of sloths.

The most effective way of being able to sight them is with a tour guide or better still having binoculars handy and a camera ready.

As part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area, the Santa Rosa National Park has a variety of ecosystems within its park. You can find 10 different habitats in the park including:

Can You Visit a Sloth Sanctuary in Costa Rica?

Can you visit a Sloth Sanctuary in Costa Rica? Well, the answer to this question is of course!

  1. First, you must choose which sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica you wish to visit. Make sure to call them or contact them by email to make arrangements and any reservations that you may need.
  2. If you live in the US or another country, you may need to get your passport in order.
  3. It might be a good idea to contact the Costa Rican Embassy to make sure you don’t need a special Traveling Visa or some kind of permit.
  4. Contact your travel agent for flight, car and any hotel reservations that you might need.
  5. Travel to your favorite Sloth Sanctuary in Costa Rica. Make sure to take lots of sloth pictures. Send some our way. We would appreciate it very much.

I’m sure there are a few steps that I missed. But if you wish to visit a sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica, or Peru or the USA or anywhere in the world where there is a sanctuary, the good news is that is very possible to do so.

According to Wikipedia – “The reserve has 15 authorized campsites distributed in 8 areas open for tourism; as well as 5 wilderness huts. Moreover, there are 19 park ranger stations (4 of them with information stands) and 21 neighborhood watch stations.

Pacaya-Samiria Sloth National Reserve Amazon ForestLiving in the Amazon canopy in Brazil and Peru, you are able to view sloths as they go about their day.

Peru and Brazil being of topical climate are places where a sloth can be very comfortable with its environment.

From one side of the world, we now move to the good old USA. The Palm Beach Zoo Sleepy Sloth Experience is a sloth sanctuary in Florida USA which honestly I wish I had known about this spot the last time I was in Florida, I would have loved to enjoy this Sleepy Sloth Experience. Now I wish there was a sloth sanctuary near me.

Sloth loving folks will definitely love the Palm Beach Zoo Sleepy Sloth Experience. With an extra admission fee of $35, visitors can have the opportunity of meeting a two-toed sloth named Wilbur, that belongs to Hoffman the zookeeper and even get a personalized classroom education. Guests also have the opportunity to take photos, learn and experience new sloth facts and if luckily in the mood get to pet the sloth.

You can plan other events here as well like: Zoo Events, Parties and Wedding, Birthday Parties, Corporate Outings and more. Not a bad place to have a Corporate Outing and get to see sloths. Win-Win for everyone involved.

The Zoological Wildlife Sloth Conservation CenterThe Zoological Wildlife Conservation Center focuses more on animal research and husbandry so there is a noticeable list of the dos and don’ts of the facility available on their website.

However, as stated by the Oregonian, with just an entry fee of $600 will give anyone the opportunity to gain entry into the sloth sleepover program of the facility that allows only 16 people at once per night.

With just $100, you can also opt-in for a one-hour session with sloths and its handlers during the day. These outings naturally come with lots of rules as they are only meant for educational purposes. But as you and I know, sloths are worth it.
